Hi, everybody!

It was a very good start to the first day of religious school, and it was a great pleasure to see old faces and meet new ones!

I want to extend a hearty welcome to our newest students, Mason and Jasmine.  Welcome aboard!

There are three attachments to this e-mail. They are my parent letter, a list of dates for parents to provide snack (I bought for the class for today), and a snack letter including student allergies.

Sorry to inundate you with so much information, but at least you have a few weeks to digest it all before we meet in class again on September 30!

The next Religious School date is September 9, which is a Family Education Day.  We will be meeting at the Congregation Albert Cemetery near Yale and Avenida Cesar Chavez SE for a very enlightening experience!  For those who missed the announcements this morning, we will have various stations around the cemetery, including one for the burial of old sacred texts that are no longer in useable condition.  The last time we made this journey was five years ago, and the kids really learned a great deal about the history of Jewish people in Albuquerque!

I realize that some people think bringing children to visit a cemetery seems a little creepy, but I can assure you that this cannot be farther from the truth.  The grounds are welcoming and well-kept, and the kids who visited five years ago (which include my own two children) felt it was a very worthwhile and highly valuable experience.

If you wish to contact me via this e-mail address, please do!  I check daily and respond within 24 hours.

Thank you, and see you on September 9!

August 26, 2012

Dear Parents,

Hi!  I am Jason Krosinsky, your child's 5th grade Religious School teacher.  During the week, I am a social studies teacher at Cleveland Middle School.  I enjoy teaching and providing a positive role model for the students.

I will be addressing your child’s learning goals through our core text, The History of the Jewish People, Vol I (Ancient Israel to 1880’s) by Jonathan D. Sarna and Jonathan B. Krasner.  This series, which will continue with Volume 2 in sixth grade, explores how Jewish people have adapted to changing times and circumstances.

In addition to to the class text, we will be regularly exploring Jewish identity and knowledge through class discussion, projects, art and Hebrew language.

Like their regular school teachers during the week, I have high academic expectations for my students.  I encourage them to build on their skills and develop new strengths through the Religious School curriculum.

One whole challah is offered as morning snack by the school.  Because this is not enough food for growing children, I am enclosing a parent snack list for the school year, as well as a food allergy guide so that parents may plan appropriately.

If you wish, you are welcome to call me or meet with me at a mutually convenient time.  My home number is 883-3153.  Also, my e-mail address is jasonkro@q.com, and I check this and respond daily.

I appreciate the opportunity I have to teach your child.

Sincerely,

Jason Krosinsky

5773 School Year Above
5772 School Year Below

Welcome to the 5772 School Year!!!

A note from Morah Maia Brown:

I am a premed student in my 4th year at UNM double majoring in Biology and Chemistry. I have been teaching religious school for 4 years, two of them at Temple Beth Shalom in Santa Fe (Kindergarten and 5th grade) and two here at Congregation Albert (4th, 5th, 7th and 8th graders).  I have also had the pleasure of being a part of the Sunday morning Tefilah services by playing guitar and singing with Cantor Finn. I enjoy using music as one of my teaching tools. I just spent the summer in Haifa, volunteering for Magen David Adom on an ambulance and learning to speak Hebrew. I look forward to sharing what I learned about the language and culture of Israel while teaching kids at Congregation Albert!
